Video shoot day in Memphis!
We woke up bright and early and met the team we’d be working with!
Katie, our marketing director; Waldo, our videographer, and few other team members along for the ride.
The night before, Kate did some scouting of our proposed filming locations and was not feeling good about the plan, so that morning we decided to pivot to a new location at a park and hope for the best.
Katie and I had gotten up hours earlier to put on full glam, do our hair, and put on in these fancyish dresses - and then it started to rain.
We only snapped a few photos before a drizzle came, and we all took cover in the NUT while we waited for it to past. Unfortunately, Mr. Peanut cannot get wet AT ALL, and he is essential for this video shoot. We can’t have soggy nuts, ya’ll!
After waiting for ✨an hour and a half✨ for the rain to pass - we finally made the call to pivot to a not as pretty, but covered area.
Mr. Peanut made an appearance and we filmed the first portion of our commercial!
The shoot itself was so fun - Waldo had a great energy and Katie, Ryan and I were all just happy to be there. It was tough to have to change plans so much, but we just kept making it work!
Once we finished in the park, we grabbed a quick lunch at a sushi place and then headed over to a restaurant to film an alternative commercial in case the footage from the outdoor shoot didn’t turn out. It was STILL raining, so to transport Mr. Peanut we had to cover him in one of the spare table cloths we had to make the trek across the parking lot.
At the restaurant, we shot essentially the same commercial but indoors, and it was significantly darker inside and Mr. Peanut had a hard time seeing. This was an obstacle we hadn’t yet encountered, but all was well and it was actually pretty funny.
At 4pm, Kate had to leave to catch her flight back to Chicago. She took a lot of the props with her, and we started packing up to leave and putting Mr. Peanut to bed.
I headed back in to the restaurant to make sure we had all our things, and Waldo runs up to me and is like “Bad news, we forgot a bunch of shots!”
I looked at him like this 🥴 and was like “Uhm… Mr. P has left the building”
He quickly clarified - "No, no, no, we just need prop shots!" And thankfully we threw something together and shot it really quick - and finally wrapped for the day.
Once we go back to the hotel, we chilled for a half hour to change and then headed out as a squad to the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid. Apparently, though originally built for sports and entertainment purposes, they opened a giant Bass Pro Shop in 2015. On our elevator ride up (the tallest freestanding elevator in the world!) - they told a story that if (I'm paraphrasing here) they caught a giant fish out on their trip, they would open a Bass Pro in the Memphis pyramid. They did, obviously, and then I guess they both kissed the fish and opened the store. Sure - whatever floats your boat!
At the top of the elevator was a restaurant and a lookout where we could see the whole city!
The food was... mid. And the view was... just alright!
Overall Memphis did not wow me, but that is simply okay! If you're traveling this much not every place we go can be a winner.
Have you ever been to Memphis? What did I miss - what should I have done? Let me know!
