Gettysburg, PA

Sorry for the haitus on posting - it's been a very nutty few weeks. I wrote this post traveling from Long Island to Iowa and am only now getting around to adding the photos. As a treat - here's some random photos I found that I forgot to post with their original blog posts:

Hoping to catch up on my New York post and Iowa post this week! For now, let's recap Gettysburg, PA!

We knew we had to be on Long Island for the fourth of July, so on our way from DC we stopped in Gettysburg, PA for a few days! A lot of people ask us how we get our samples if we travel full time. Most of the time, our manager Teagan sends boxes of peanuts to whatever hotel we are at. But when it's a weekend, or we are in a pinch, we just go to Target, or Walmart or convenience stores, and we buy everything they have. Which is what we had to do the few days before Gettysburg.

There's something very silly about 3 adults wearing Planters merch coming into Target and buying every box of variety pack peanuts they have - but it must be done!

Gettysburg was a welcome change of pace from the chaos that was DC'd BBQ Battle. We posted up at Appalachian Brewing Company for 2 days and met so many really kind and excited people. All the staff at ABC was so excited we were there, and we met folks who said they traveled over 2 hours just to come see the NUTmobile! We also got some fun tips from locals of where we should go before we headed out of town. After the end of our shift at ABC on day one, we headed to the Gettysburg Times and did our first interview with the local news! (The next day we went to a grocery store and bought a copy... we made front page - so we were basically famous in Gettysburg.) So many people told us they came to see us at ABC on the second day BECAUSE of the newspaper article, so slow media isn't dead, y'all!

Before we started our shift at the brewery on day 2, we decided to get an early start and see some of the recs we got from local Gettysburgians:

Gettysbug Rec 1: Mr. Ed's Candy Emporium... because we had tons of people tell us they had a Mr. Peanut statue in there... which we of course had to see. The "statue" was actually a vintage mascot shell of Mr. Peanut and we had a proper fangirl over it. It's so goofy - 2 months ago I enjoyed Planters but wouldn't have batted an eye at a vintage Mr. P - and now I'm driving around searching for relics from Mr. Peanuts past. You really never know where life will take you LOL. (We took videos in front of the Mr. P, but I can't find them! So here's me in a peanut outside)

As we were checking out the candy store, Ryan came up to me and Katie and was like "I just pet a pig outside". Now, this store was surrounded in little kitschy statues and sculptures, so at first this rang no alarm bells. But then he prefaced, "No, like, a real live pig"

And I checked out as fast as I could so I, too, could pet the pig outside. This is Mabel, the baby pig we met in Gettysburg.

After our little trip to Mr. Ed's we ventured back into downtown Gettysburg and snagged a map with guides for Gettysburg Rec 2: The Battleground Auto Tour. If I'm honest, driving through a place where a bunch of death happened isn't necessarily my idea of good time, but driving a 26-foot-long peanut makes almost everything more fun. I turned on Dungeons and Dragons battle music to really set the mood and we set off on the route to see the battlegrounds. We make a couple stops along the way, one of them to a lookout spot that gave us a great view of Marshell below and the scenery Gettysburg had to offer. My favorite part was just the looks we got from all the tourists. People thought they'd be visiting the battlegrounds, learning about American history, and then... giant peanut. :) We brough many smiles that day. :)

The next morning we headed out of Gettysburg - next stop NYC! Cashew soon!
